last saturday (after i fell asleep not even 10 minutes into
frozen
the night before), we thought we wanted a quiet night in, just the two of us. we spent the afternoon returning things to the mall (seriously, it felt like we were making so much money returning so many clothes i couldn't decide on without my trusty fashion expert/fiance). then, being the social butterflies we are, we decided that a night in "could" mean that we just bring the people to us, so we invited friends over for snacks and drinks. nothing crazy, very casual, and much-needed! hung served up some cranberry, caramelized onion, manchego, and cheddar paninis on sourdough and we laid out some random indian snacks and cucumbers with hummus. mixed with boxed pinot grigio and
schofferhoffer grapefruit beer
, our random night in with scramblings from the fridge turned into quite the fun night!

how is it june already!? time slips so fast around here, and before you know it i'll be saying "we still need to go to the beach this summer" forgetting it's already september. although this space has been quiet for a while, our lives certainly haven't been. when the sun starts to shine in jersey city, people are OUT. it's like a stroller haven around here. and bikes! goodness there are a lot of bikes. it's so nice to live in a place where a bicycle is an accepted mode of transportation and isn't just for those less fortunate or those who stumbled on getting a DUI. hung and i recently took our bikes to
grove street bicycles
to get them prepped for the season, giving us motivation to get out and about on those things for once!

lately.
life has been a whirlwind lately (as you probably know, if not, see
here
and
here
). Wednesday was just nice though. i took the day off of work to surprise hung at his office, ate lunch with him and his coworkers, brought
banana cake
from
momofuku millkbar
, and arranged for him to leave after lunch....
(1) everyday after work we've been eating dinner and going straight to the new house to paint. and paint. and paint. and we're still not done painting. but at least we still get a great dinner before heading over there! hung made rice cakes with pork and spinach on monday. seriously it was like eating the best pork dumplings, but not in dumpling form. hopefully get the chance to make it again and share the recipe with you guys! seriously it's so easy and so delicious. if you see rice cakes on the menu at a Chinese restaurant, GET THEM!
(2) wednesday morning i slipped out of the house before hung woke up to grab him a bagel sammich from wonder bagels , and on my quick walk home i noticed the most beautiful sky during sunrise.
(3) i had an hour to spare after picking up the cake but before i needed to be at hung's office. naturally, i went to crate and barrel and had NO problem wasting an hour. these stools, they are $150 each. and they are the ultimate inspiration for an upcoming DIY.
(4) that's the banana cake . when they said "a 6-inch cake serves 8-12 people" i thought they were crazy. but then i saw the HEIGHT on that thing. a sliver is more than enough!
one more tidbit of (good?) news, apparently we inherited the title of "condo association president" when we bought our unit. hung gladly took that position.... now we just have to wait and see if that was a good decision or not ;)
happy friday!

it's hip to be square
in the past few weeks:
1. i had a much-needed girls night out (and NOT needed sunday hangover)
2. i went for a run along the water, manhattan looks so pretty from the jersey side ;)
3. i went on a successful shopping trip with out-of-town friends in a snowstorm
4. i spent a sunny, but freezing, day in the field for work
5. i reminisced our old apartment, and living in hoboken
6. brunelleschi construction started working on the building across the street (for those of you that don't know, that means there's a potential that HGTV's kitchen cousins or cousins on call will be filming there!! whaaaaa!!)
7. we had a beautiful snowstorm with snow that lasted all of about 2 hours.. boo.
8. my car just got a little more ghetto (apparently i'm not as good at parallel parking as i think :P)

cheers!

M.I.A. because of Mex-i-co
well... mexico AND other stuff....
(you left us for THAT long and didn't even give us a warning!?)
sorry, readers, that's what happens when i'm so on the go and my day job
(aka the one that pays the bills)
has me working longer hours... what i CAN do is leave you with a few sneak peaks of where we've been the last few weeks!
if you couldn't tell from the photos, we:
- ate and drank
(a lot)
- then i ran it all off in a 5k
(ha, if ONLY a 5k would reverse a whole weekend of bad food and too many drinks)
- then i spent a weekend in paradise with far-away friends
mr p's weekend in paradise with far-away friends is going to be this weekend, which means whole house to myself, which means
(crossing my fingers)
catching up on a
LOT
of blogging!
stay tuned, my friends...
cheers!
